Sat, 12 Nov 2011 03:21:20 -0800WeeblyTue, 29 Jun 2010 02:21:52 -0800http://www.tonybardon.com/1/post/2010/06/love-your-neighbour-as-yourself.htmlWe are living within a divine system and this system has laws.  If we live in harmony with these laws we have a peaceful life if we do not we experience difficulties.  It appears to me that our purpose here is to serve others.  God has manifested as a human within each and every one of us and ultimately God's purpose is to serve his creation.  The divine laws appear to be set up in such a way that God acts indirectly rather than directly.  This means that God serves others through us. On the face of it this appears to be an ideal set-up.  The problem is that rather than serve others we tend to put ourselves first and put a lot of effort into serving our false self, the ego and forget about our real self  who is the Christ within us. To overcome this we must learn to trust another divine law which is the law of Karma "Whatever we do to others will be done to us"  If we live for others then they will live for us and we will have an experience of the Kingdom of God.  If we live for ourselves then others in our lives will live for themselves also and we will have an experience of separation and alienation.  That is why we are encouraged to love our neighbour as ourselves.  In the divine scheme of things as distinct from the human, our neighbour is ourself.]]>Sat, 22 May 2010 12:13:02 -0800http://www.tonybardon.com/1/post/2010/05/deepak-chopra.htmlDeepak Chopra was in the National Concert Hall in Dublin last Wednesday evening. It was a full house. I had read quite a lot of his books and I wanted to see what he was like in person.  I was not disappointed.  He was on stage for approximately two and a half hours and he sustained the interest of his audience over that period.  His audience made just as much an impression on me as the man himself.  It was predominantly a middle-class audience in their thirties forties and fifties.  It struck me that these are the people that may have abandoned the Church.  They are still interested in spirituality but the Church no longer appeals to them at a rational level and its ceremonies rituals and dogma are no longer sustaining their allegiance.

  Spiral Dynamics is the study of the stages of development of individuals and society. It describes the stages of development as being archaic, magic, mythic, rational, pluralistic, and integral.  Deepak's audience have moved beyond mythic. They no longer believe in a mythic God who is mediated through a controlling church.  However in spite of their rational approach to life,  they are still confronted by the mystery of their existence and where Deepak scorers over the Church is that he is able to reconcile the two.  He is able to demonstrate wearing his scientist hat that science is now confirming what the mystics and the sages have been saying for thousands of years.  We are all part of one consciousness.  It is the structure of our brains that has fooled us into thinking that we are separate beings. However some of mankind has now evolved to such an extent that it has become aware of this reality.  Consciousness is becoming aware of itself and through human beings the Universe is becoming aware of itself. Deepak is trusted because he is a scientist.  As a scientist he can now demonstrate that meditation is the fastest way to move up through the stages of development.  As a mystic he knows this intuitively. The mystical tradition in the church has the capacity to bring its followers on  the last step of its journey to unity with God but at this time it is the Deepak Chopras and the other new lay spiritual teachers such as Eckhart Tolle and Ken Wilber who are leading the charge in this task while the Church is left struggling with the shadow side of its mythic past where it repressed sexuality and the consequences of this repression, which were hidden for so long in the interests of the institution, are now everywhere to be seen.

 

So what is the Church to do?  As far as those attending the Chopra seminars it probably does not have to worry.  They have become what is known as self-authored. They have the capacity to access their inner wisdom and, in conjunction with others at a similar stage of development and with the guidance of the new sages, to look after themselves.  However, throughout the world, there are many billions of individuals and communities who are still at a mythic stage of development and they need healthy Churches and Religions to show them what to do until such time as they develop a capacity to fend for themselves.  One metaphor for this  is that the Church is a safe harbour where we prepare for the open seas of life bur rather than encourage its graduates to set out on the open sea it has encouraged them to stay within the safe limits of the harbour where they only experience frustration because they are being no longer nourished by the harbour experience.]]>Sat, 22 May 2010 12:01:18 -0800http://www.tonybardon.com/1/post/2010/05/my-home-bodymind.html16/05/2010 My home body/mind

We are all familiar with the concept of a home town. My home town is the place I grew up in but most of us move on from our home town when we realise that the "world is our oyster" and that we can go literally anywhere we want to in the world. While we always relate to our home town with affection we do not overly identify with it.  It does not take over who we are.  The same cannot be said for our homebody/mind. We are the local presence of the infinite and we have been born into a body/mind. The problem is that we over identify with the location and we forget about our divinity.  The universe is literally our oyster but we insist on identifying ourselves where we are from.  Ken Wilber, who is one of my favourite spiritual writers, has described this situation in the following terms.  We are body/mind/spirit. When we live out of our spirit we are living in heaven or the kingdom as Jesus put it.  When we live out of our body /mind we are living in hell.  So what is he saying? We do not have to wait until the next life to have either of these experiences. Another way of putting this is that we are human beings. Living exclusively out of our of our humanity without tempering it with our beingness can be hell, whereas if we life out of our beingness or our "I amness" then we can experience bliss.

 

Yet another way of looking at this is that we have no problem in recognising that we have an identity that is broader than our hometown identity,  I come from Abbeyleix but in addition to being from Abbeyleix I am also a Laois man, I am an Irishman, I am a European I am a member of the human race.  But I seem to identify totally with my body/mind not realising that my identity also embraces the spirit of all of those around me, not realising that my identity embraces the identity of all.]]>Sat, 22 May 2010 10:58:34 -0800http://www.tonybardon.com/1/post/2010/05/ego.html09/10/09 Committee

Our psyche is composed of a committee and only one member of this committee is real.  Big Mind/ Holy Spirit/ Soul/ Consciousness / This is the only member of the committee that will survive although there may be an imprint / essence of the others.  All the others are false selves/ illusions / sub personalities / ego manifestations and they will die.  If they do not die during our lifetime they will die at death.]]>Sat, 22 May 2010 10:50:35 -0800http://www.tonybardon.com/1/post/2010/05/seeking.htmlSeeking

The trouble with seeking is that we cannot find with the tools we are using. We cannot find God because we are looking at the world with the eyes of God.  Each of us is a local perspective of an infinite God / an infinite consciousness.]]>
