Spiritual Songs I
In his recent book From Ambition to Meaning the American writer Wayne Dyer works on the premise that we spend the first half of our lives following our ambition to make make our way in the world. Whereas in the second half ou our lives we we seek to find meaning and many of us do this through seeking to find out what life is all about and where do we fit in and where does God, if there is a God, or if there is a God as we understand him fit in. This is one possible definition of spirituality and I have read extensively seeking to find meaning and I have reflected this search in in the songs below.

The Road Less Trravelled is based on a book of the same name by the writer M Scott Peck. I came across this book in 1978 when I was in a bookshop in Dublin airport waiting to go on a holiday to Portugal. I found it compulsive reading and it transformmed my understanding of spirituality and therapy. He wrote many other books most of which I have read. He appears to have had a troubled life himself but I have no doubt that he has helped millions of people in understanding what life and their relationship with God is all about.
The song seeks to capure the essence of the book.Every day of our lives we are constantly being faced by choices both in relation to the small details of our lives but also in relation to the important decisions. Depending on what choices we make, we will make progress and grow or we stay stuck and fall back. The road less travelled is about making the right decisions which usually involve a tougher course of action. It is also about letting go of the illusion that we can control all aspects of our lives. It is about recognising that there is a power infinitely greater than ourselves who has our interests at heart and our lives will flow far more easily when we align ourselves with that power.
